Meanwhile, back in the old west

Another batch of figures I was sent to slap some paint on.   I do enjoy this, painting stuff I would never think to purchase for myself is proving quite good fun.   I also got the 5 Klicks unit done, see that page for those and a bit of the background.  I have now started the Copplestone figures, I am very impressed with the detail, they are very nice.  May have them done by the end of next weekend, we'll see.

Project 5

So I spent my first 15 months back in the hobby being very controlled with my projects, trying to make sure I only bought stuff I would actually use, concentrating on Fantasy games. Then when Christmas rolled around I put The Silver Bayonet and the box of Riflemen on my wish list thinking it was time to branch out.  You’ll have seen that I have had a lot of fun preparing for it, but I just can’t seem to motivate myself to get it on the table.  No reflection on Joseph McCullough, but actually the same thing happened with Rangers of Shadowdeep.  I bought the book, rolled up my squad, and that was it, just kept playing Five Leagues instead. I was beginning to think it was me avoiding getting confused over a different set of combat rules, but that can’t be it as I took to GoTT okay and I’ve playtested some stuff from other stables without trouble, so I think it might be that a published and prescribed scenario stifles me? In fact if it hadn’t been Christmas the urge to...

When in doubt there’s always Gunnar

After not playing an actual game last weekend, just messing about with something (but more on that in a bit), I realised that I have a lot of different stuff on the go and therefore a lot to choose from.  Too much in fact! Guards of Traitor’s Toll is now on pre-release!  You can find the bundles and a free pdf overview of the game here -  https://greyfornow.com/collections/guards-of-traitors-toll .   So nothing more to do there, but I really must complete those buildings. I’ve just finished the last of the character sets for my Very Sharpe Silver Bayonet (here’s the main pose of the 8 of them, all the sets are now on the page).  I have also done enough figures to play the first solo mission in the book (again on the TVSSB page) and here’s some of the wolves. However, I suddenly found myself not wanting to dive into a new ruleset. I’ve done more skeletons and nearly have all the cavalry finished.  Not that it matters as I have already rolled up the ne...

Cheyenne Warriors

Image
The Cheyenne warriors I was sent after offering to paint things for other people, are done.   I am pretty happy with them and enjoyed doing a bit of research on the warpaint colours and symbolism.   I chose the muted colours for the clothing on purpose and like the way the full set hangs together without being ‘uniform’, a nice change of pace while still working on Riflemen (another 6 done, 6 to go).
