Gaming

Eventually I got everything else I had planned to do done, and got the first official game of the EKPS campaign on the table.  My new stuff played out nicely and I’ve now made the minor tweaks that came to mind, so I’m all set on that front and declare the past week as much a victory as the game was. Of course I also got some more painting done finishing the last of the Goblin Wolf Riders that I imagine will make an appearance in the Dernland campaign soon enough. Also these few Dark Elf warriors, 3D prints from Asgard Rising, made it onto the done list.  They were for the 5LB campaign, but the Fey threat is already defeated, so I’ll have to think up an excuse to table them. There’s plenty of odds and ends in various states of work too, but I wanted to get one more game in, so the table is set for 5 Klicks tomorrow.  I rolled up six Hooligans, so I get to table the Luchadores, that should be fun.

EKPS

Elf, Knyghte, Pyke and Sword has been officially published and I have written a bunch of stuff to go with it to drive my Defence of Dernland campaign.  This is not just the actual mechanics for the campaign but includes formal rules for playing solo, the Peoples list for the Reptiles, the rules for chariots, and a few more spell lists. Not sure whether these will become official in a later update or just be issued as fan work on Discord, we’ll see. So the page for that has been updated a little and I’ll start logging the games there. Anyway in preparation for this I have continued working on the goblin (Orc Horde) wolf riders and also made another hill. GoTT Mission 1

Today saw me play Guards of Traitor’s Toll just for the first time that was just for fun of it!  It was indeed a lot of fun and there is a full report plus lots of photos of the action on the page. UPDATE - It depends on how you are viewing this blog as to how you get to the pages, there should be a list of them, but here’s a direct link -  https://horrendousgaming.blogspot.com/p/project-3.html

A strange mix

I feel like I am all over the place at the minute.  I have taken some more time off to work on some specific things and get them tested on the table but I can’t quite decide what to do first, so for the weekend I have been painting whatever was still hanging around. This starts with some more wild west figures as part of my offer to paint things for other people.  They like to do their own basing so these are just painted, varnished, and sent on their way.  I am really enjoying this for the novelty, as I had no plans to do wild west figures for myself. Then it was back to post apocalyptic stuff, hence the giant scorpion above, which is the one from the North Star Silver Bayonet range.   I also finished this terrain piece for a easily placed bit of hard cover to be fought over.  The walls are pre-printed cardboard stuck on to foam board.  It was relatively quick and easy but I do still have some plans for some scratch built stuff later. Also on the sa...

Chapter 3 is drafted

Image
Behind the scenes I have been working away at Five Klicks from the Zone and have now finished the first draft of Chapter 3 while Ivan is busy tidying up the new Chapter 1.  The trilogy arc works well I think, and Chapter 3 is written as an endgame.  Hopefully it will all see the light of day at some point, but in the meantime I’m still working up my own campaign with terrain and opponents. Plenty more of this to come.

Now that’s what I call a week off

Image
I took advantage of the Public Holiday in the UK on Monday to take the whole week off, and it turns out the timing was perfect the weather was nice enough to take some time in the garden, but not so good it kept me out of the War Room. So loads more stuff got painted for 5Klicks.  3D printed terrain - craters for difficult terrain and pools for dangerous. More wild animals, these are all Wargames Foundry this time: Plus another set of human enemies.  These are from Spectre and are supposed to be a heist gang in balaclavas, but my mind came up with “When Luchadores go bad!” instead. Also, as you can see at the top of the page, I got some game time in.  Quite a lot of it in fact.  Sadly most of it was for a game I am not allowed to talk about (yes really, I signed an NDA) but also got in the Quest finale from my 5LB campaign.  Gunnar’s crew picked up the series of quests back in turn 6 and the finale was turn 34!  Don’t let it be said that 5LB cam...

Going Ape

Image
Back to the Post Apocalypse stuff now. Not so much Planet of the Apes, as primates gone wild, so Gorillas as the “Brutes”, with Chimps and Baboons as the basic enemies. Then a couple of “Monstrosities”, one from the forest and one from the swamp. All of these are metals from various North Star ranges. Finally, I bought some plastic lengths of scaled down I and H beams to make some ruins and, while experimenting with painting it as ‘rusted’, made some markers.

More Townsfolk

Finally reached the end of the Wargames Atlantic Villagers sprues that come with The Guards of Traitor’s Toll game.  There are a lot of items for them to carry to match up with the way the game is played, leading to a lot of fun making up the exact figures I needed to fill in the gaps given all the Midlam Miniatures stuff I got for the playtesting.  So some of these might look odd if you didn’t know what they are for. It should be noted now I look at the photo again that the bowman and guy with flaming torch used the Guards sprue, which is also where the arms with the grappling hook came from.  The se below though are all from the Villagers, including the owl! After doing the owl I remembered I had some Otherworld metal ‘familiars’, kicking about so created the last two figures just for them.
