Dutch Danish

 

Plunder and Fighting has your pirate crew up against other pirates, thugs and guards, and the local military. You only need 10 or so figures at a time, so I picked up these Danish Musketeers from League of Augsburg.  Most people will probably use British Royal Navy in this role, but I figure a bit of orange and these will fit nicely as Dutch.

I’ve also now finished a couple more buildings that will fit in here.  A barn, with hayloft, to go with the Inn, and a Warehouse to go in the Harbour or Town.


I’m still not ready for the next pirate game though, I need to finish painting Robbie the hapless Cabin Boy, so I played Protect and Survive instead.

Leftovers

  While I was waiting for my pirates to arrive I went through my leftovers to find things to do.  Then the pirate order arrived (thanks North Star for getting them out just before your move) so I moved over to that crew, but after that, as well as the remaining metal pirates, I got the other stuff finished. So above we have some Oathmark Dwarves.  When I was making Post Apocalypse figures with improvised weapons from Stargrave kits, I found a note by North Star suggesting the use of tools off the dwarf light infantry sprues.  I bought a single sprue from Wargames Emporium but of course there were five bodies and plenty of other arms.  So five random dwarves, including one as a civilian for Guards of Traitor’s Toll. Also in my spares box with that sprue was some leftover Orc Heavies bodies, and in Protect and Survive I have the concept of “scrap armour”.  Orc bodies, Stargrave arms and heads, perfect! Rivals

  I’ve created a new page for my own Plunder and Fighting campaign as I’m playing through the first Story Arc in the rules - Rivals.  Game 1 is done.   I found myself engineering swashbuckling moves, including a final blow landed by the Captain, Black Bart, running up a stack of barrels and crates to leap at the adversary.  Loads of over the top fun, as intended. Meanwhile, on the workbench are post apocalyptic bystanders and additional adversaries and a load of Second Boer War British. On the writing front I’m deep into The Adventurer’s Guild, figuring out how magic is going to be used and working in special rules for Rogues. This one will only be Arc driven as I have decided to write each arc around a specific set of fantasy enemies, there’s plenty of scope though as I have 10 in mind so far.

So it begins

Back in October 2023, I took a look at my life and realised that outside of working I had nothing much I enjoyed doing and I was pretty much wasting my weekends away.  I recalled my long ago love for tabletop wargaming and roleplaying, and wondered whether I could rekindle that. Long, long, ago I played Napoleonic 15mm (Prussian), some Vietnam skirmish, 25mm Medieval skirmish, and even some ACW.  Later I discovered D&D and Traveller (a science fiction roleplay system) which then lead me to Games Workshop and working with the team on games like Space Hulk and Dark Future and getting stuff published in White Dwarf, that eventually lead, in the early 1990s, to my game designer credits on Space Hulk Campaigns, second edition Space Hulk, and the Warhammer Quest supplement Lair of the Orc Lord.
