6 Months Review
As it’s the end of June I thought I’d check how I’m doing against the plan I had in January. This year I’ve been tracking against last year’s totals, so lets see what the numbers say before I look at the actual projects:
Not bad then! Of course this time last year I was still working, and hadn’t started the publishing side, so it’s only to be expected I guess.
I said the big project would be the 10mm and that’s definitely been true. The rules are in final edits, I’m nearly half way through the units (18 of a planned 40), and have 20 of the 29 boards done. Playtesting has been fun, so I’m looking forward to getting the full campaign started, hopefully by the end of the year. So clearly still my biggest project for the coming six months too.
The plan was also to finish the Space Station tiles and scatter, and that’s done. I started mu own campaign and 5 of the games so far have been Call Security! So I’m saying that’s done. Also done are the pile of Foundry Wild West figures I got for Christmas. I want to do scratch built buildings for that as my next big terrain project, so crossing off both of these but putting Wild West town in as a new project.
The fourth planned project was to use The Wardens of History as an excuse to paint up small batches of figures from as many different periods as I want. Not so good there, I did do the Warden and his team, and I have played a couple of the games, but nothing else specifically painted for it (I have got some new figures that were my birthday presents though, so they’ll be coming. I think I’ll just treat this as background fun though rather than saying it’s a project.
What I’ve been doing instead is units for my After the Calamity campaign. That’s definitely a project, even at just 5 figure units that will end up tripling my post apocalypse collection, so that’s the new 28mm project sorted.
What else? Well before the end of the year I intend to publish my Superhero Adventure rules and my Urban Fantasy Adventure rules, so I will need figures and some modern terrain for those. Both should be a lot of fun, especially with what I have planned for the latter.
So there we are then. Three of the four projects went to plan, and now I have a new plan, so we’ll see where we are at the end of the year. What I will say though is that as objectives and deadlines go, these have been the most fun I’ve ever had!
BTW, I think I’ve also got a plan for my social media presence now, so I’m going to start logging that too, as follows:
This Blog - weekly updates of things painted or built and running galleries and campaign reports, so pretty much as it is now. Current followers are just 5 but I’m averaging about 75 views a day.
Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1307314304342804) - weekly updates on the publishing front only. It’s a tiny group (just 32 at this point) so I might review that in six months.
Reddit sub (https://www.reddit.com/r/HG_AdventureSeries/s/ZbT6OtbJth) - daily posts trying to build it up. It’s 10 days old at this point, with 21 members, so again I’ll see how it goes, but I’m hoping to get other people engaging and use it to promote solo gaming in general, if it grows.
Next big milestone is 3rd August, the day I published Call Security!, so I’ll say more about how that side of things is going then.
In the meantime, stay cool, have fun, and take care. Dean.
