The world of Protect and Survive

When I started writing my own rules I made a conscious decision not to try and build in any specific background, leaving that up to players. As I get near the conclusion of my own Protect and Survive Post Apocalypse campaign I do wonder whether people appreciate that or whether I should add some when I do updates next year?

Before my game 11 I decided to start including the optional rules for there being mutated monsters wandering about and of course in that game one did, a giant spider! Then in game 12 the scenario introduces the Ferals, an Adversary where humans and animals (in my case, big cats) are running together in packs.

I really like this as a ‘feel’ for the campaign, it’s harks back to the kind of sixties science fiction that was a lot of my reading growing up, rather than the current trend of either zombies or really over the top mutations.

Meanwhile, I’ve also painted up a dozen hoplites for a mate (he’s doing the shields and bases). I have no idea why the eyes stand out so much in the photo, they don’t look that bad in real life, honest.
