No new figures finished paining recently and I post the details of games directly to the relevant page, so in case you missed it recent additions are Mission 2 of Guards of Traitor’s Toll and Game 3 of my Protect and Survive campaign, both on the relevant pages.

Meanwhile the playtesters for Plunder and Fighting spotted a minor error in how Casualties are handled which I have gone back and fixed.  If you purchase a game through Wargame Vault you can get updates easily, so I’m happy I went down that route.

I’m busy painting pirates at the moment, thinking about wild west, and have some other things heading for me to paint, so loads going on.

So it begins

Back in October 2023, I took a look at my life and realised that outside of working I had nothing much I enjoyed doing and I was pretty much wasting my weekends away.  I recalled my long ago love for tabletop wargaming and roleplaying, and wondered whether I could rekindle that. Long, long, ago I played Napoleonic 15mm (Prussian), some Vietnam skirmish, 25mm Medieval skirmish, and even some ACW.  Later I discovered D&D and Traveller (a science fiction roleplay system) which then lead me to Games Workshop and working with the team on games like Space Hulk and Dark Future and getting stuff published in White Dwarf, that eventually lead, in the early 1990s, to my game designer credits on Space Hulk Campaigns, second edition Space Hulk, and the Warhammer Quest supplement Lair of the Orc Lord. Why I enjoy plastic kits

  In my round up of 2024 I mentioned my joy working with hard plastic kits, and while working my way through the box of British Riflemen for my The Very Sharpe Silver Bayonet (TVSSB) campaign I thought I’d talk through why, and my process for dealing with them. The picture above may not look particularly interesting until you realise that none of them are actually straight off the sprue, and that’s not something you can do with metal or a resin print.  The Rifles box enables 32 figures, but only has 4 different bodies, and yet with the mix of arms and heads there’s a lot of different poses available.  Then on top of that, with a little imagination and work, you can push things beyond the sprue. So first up the tools you’ll need.  I really suggest investing in a decent pair of side snips for removing parts from sprues.  Like these for example, but of course other brands and indeed non-branded ones are available!
